The list of scheduled trips below remains a work in progress and reflects mostly weekend trips. Other trips are ad hoc and announced via the BRV email list. For more about BRV's excursions, please see the club's trip guidelines. Mid-week trips: Stay tuned to BRV emails whenever there's water in fun places. The Thursday Paddlers, an informal group of DC area whitewater boaters, led for decades by Steve Ettinger, organize trips every week from March to November.To join their email list, contact Mark Brenneman. CCA also has a Pick Up Trips email list for people to connect anytime area ww creeks and tributary rivers are runnable.To subscribe to this list, send an email with the subject "Pickup Trips" to webmaster@canoecruisers.org, or post a proposal to trips@canoecruisers.org. Risa Shimoda, an early extreme paddler and two time head of American Whitewater, will discuss some public paddling initiatives, the impact of the transfer of governance for all competitive paddlesport (from dragon boat racing, kayak polo, and sprints to slalom racing, wildwater racing, and free style kayaking (rodeo) to the American Canoe Association, and the new International Whitewater Hall of Fame (coming to a location near you). She will kick her talk off with a short video. The evening will also include a video featuring BRV members in both kayaks and open canoes. There are thrills and spills from a variety of river locations including the Cheat Canyon, the Gauley, La Rogue (Quebec) the New Gorge, Rios Tres Amigos (Costa Rica), and the Tygart (Arden Section). We hope to paddle Stony Creek June 15 and/or June 16. We'll be on the Yough or neighboring rivers during the week and are staying at the Ohiopyle State Park campground. Some may wish to paddle the GW Canal prior to the fireworks. Paddle to the middle of the river at 8:45, anchor and raft together. Fireworks are displayed on VA side at the golf course at 9:15 p.m. A launch from Teddy Roosevelt lot is no longer possible and there is uncertainty about the exact location of the fireworks this year.
